With the Province encouraging people to stay inside unless going out is absolutely necessary, grocery stores and delivery services have begun hiring more employees to ensure they have enough staff to meet the increased demands.

Companies including Walmart and Amazon have announced major hiring plans, and Indeed Canada has seen a significant spike in job postings from major grocers including Loblaws and Costco.

Job searches involving the word “Amazon” increased 303 per cent in March compared to February numbers.

Additionally, searches involving jobs associated with Walmart increased by 374 per cent in March compared to February.

Further, delivery jobs are in high demand, as many people are attempting to order food and groceries online, as opposed to going out and risking spreading or contracting the virus.

As a result, especially given the fact it appears social distancing will be a requirement for Ontarians for at least the next few weeks, it’s likely many large grocery stores will begin hiring more delivery drivers, and focusing on more options for online shopping.
