Job postings down due to COVID-19

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many employers have had to close, and many workers have been laid off.
Further, while the government has instructed businesses that aren’t essential to close, more people are looking for work as more become unavailable.
During previous years, March represented an increase in job postings, as more employers were looking to hire seasonal employees.
However, due to this year’s global pandemic, this isn’t the case.
According to available data from Indeed, job postings have declined by 15.3 per cent the second half of March.

Moreover, hospitality and tourism, aviation, and food preparation and service have all been hit particularly hard.
All three fields have seen job postings decline by 21 per cent, 25 per cent, and 29 per cent respectively.
Additionally, personal care and home health, software development, and security and public safety saw increases in the number of job postings by two, four, and seven per cent respectively.
