This year has been quite exciting for federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh.

This year has been quite exciting for federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. In terms of his private life, Singh has already had two pre-wedding ceremonies, and it’s true, the political leader and Bramptonian will be getting married sooner rather than later!

The 38-year-old former Brampton MPP and current federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is set to marry 27-year-old co-founder of a Punjabi clothing line called Jangiiro, Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu in February 2018, according to The Canadian Press.

The couple will tie the knot with a first wedding ceremony — known in Punjabi tradition as a Kirtan — on Sunday, February 4, 2018 right here in Brampton. The ceremony will “involve a large gathering of friends, family, neighbours and well-wishers.”

But that’s not all — Singh and Sidhu will then travel to Mexico on Monday, February 19, 2018 for a private ceremony before spending the rest of the week also in Mexico on their honeymoon.

This news comes just about two weeks after Singh proposed to Sidhu at a restaurant in downtown Toronto.

The House of Commons does not sit the week that Singh and Kaur are gone.

While Singh’s private life was pretty quiet during his federal leadership campaign, in December 2017, Singh and Sidhu celebrated their rokha, which is basically a traditional Punjabi pre-engagement ceremony where parents and close family meet and gifts are exchanged. A rokha also means the pair is officially taken…by one another!

They were quite vocal about the celebration on social media, with photos and videos of the couple celebrating with close friends and family.

The couple has been dating for about a year now, and they have known each other for almost a decade, since 2010.
