Italian restaurant destroyed by fire in southern Ontario

An Italian restaurant in southern Ontario was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, officials say.

Emergency crews responded to 3990 Erie Road in the Town of Fort Erie at 5:33 a.m., said Kevin Beauchamp, a spokesperson for the town.

That’s the location of Amalfi’s Trattoria & Bar, an “authentic Italian restaurant” in Crystal Beach, according to the restaurant’s website.

The website says that it’s “a locally owned, beachside gathering place built by Crystal Beachers, for the beachers and beyond.”

Beauchamp said it took most of the day to extinguish the fire at the restaurant.

“The roof structure was compromised requiring a piece of equipment to assist in removing the roof structure to get to the material burning,” he said.

Beauchamp said the restaurant was destroyed in the blaze.

Thirty firefighters responded.

No injuries were reported.

Beauchamp said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
