If you have a good book and a fireplace, this weekend might be a good time to curl up and keep warm.

The weekend weather forecast calls for some bitterly cold weather.

Tonight (Feb. 23), the temperature is expected to fall to -15 C but with the windchill, it is expected to feel more like -24 C in Mississauga, Brampton, Durham Region and across much of the GTA.

Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton will feel slightly warmer at around -22 C.

Saturday morning will be a bit warmer, with highs around -4 C and lows at -9 C. It could feel like -23 C with the windchill in the morning.

Sunny, clear skies are expected all day Saturday.

Sunday, the weather could get cloudy and there is a possibility of rain or flurries. The temperatures are expected to be warmer with a high of 2 C and low of around -3 C.

The cold temperatures have prompted warnings — one of the few cold weather alerts this very mild winter.

Weather forecasters had been predicting double-digit temperatures next week but that appears to have changed to high of 7 to 9 C for Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton and Durham.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are around zero to -8 C.
