An island retreat on Lake Simcoe and four Oshawa properties, including two units in the same north-end building, an historic row house and a downtown condo, made the short list for the most affordable properties sold in Durham Region last month.

An eleventh-floor unit at 2550 Simcoe St. N. in Oshawa was the most affordable home sold, with the studio apartment selling for $210,000 – $39,000 under asking.

The fully furnished unit is ideal for students, newcomers, first-time buyers and investors, with the apartment featuring laminate flooring, stainless steel appliances, a stacked washer and dryer, a 3-piece bathroom, a clear west exposure with lots of natural light and a Juliette balcony to allow for a nice breeze throughout the unit.

At number two is a 2-bedroom row house on Olive Avenue just south of downtown.

The house, which sold for $250,000 ($50,000 under asking) has a covered front porch overlooking a park and a spacious eat-in kitchen with a walk-out to the back deck. The primary bedroom upstairs is paired with a 4-piece bathroom and a sitting room that doubles as a home office and the private backyard serves as an outdoor retreat.

In the three spot is the ultimate island escape on Lake Simcoe’s Thorah Island. This rare freehold waterfront property at 40586B Shore Road, which sold for $298,000 ($41,000 under asking) offers 93 feet of shoreline – ideal for swimming, boating, fishing and year-round recreation.

The complete package includes a 185 Stingray Bowrider, a 60′ dock with two electric lifts (boat & jet ski), an ATV, two snowmobiles and even an ice-fishing hut. The main cottage is fully insulated and features vaulted ceilings, updated electrical and plumbing and a Waterloo Septic System.

Lake Views can be enjoyed from the screened-in sun porch, plus added guest privacy with separate sleeping bunkies and a wood-fired sauna. Just a short boat ride from Beaverton and the mainland.

At #4 is another unit at 2550 Simcoe, also on the eleventh floor, which sold for $350,000. Both condos offer plenty of building amenities, such as gym, exercise room, pet wash station, bike storage4, movie theatre, business rooms, guest suites, a party room and a BBQ area.

Number five on the list is a condo in the heart of downtown Oshawa at 55 William Street which also sold for $350,000.

This suite offers an open concept living and dining areas and large windows with natural light, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The primary bedroom includes a private 2-piece ensuite while the second bedroom offers a possible home office or additional living space.

In-suite laundry, a utility room for extra storage and a private balcony with a southern exposure complete the package.
