Charges have been laid against a Brampton woman after police say she was caught driving while impaired after a night out at a restaurant, police say.
The call came in shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Thursday when the OPP says officers from the Dufferin detachment were called to a restaurant in Orangeville.
Police said an “intoxicated patron” was attempting to drive away from a local dining establishment, with a picture shared by police showing the Montana’s BBQ & Bar on 5th Avenue in Orangeville.
Once on the scene police say they began investigating and say a 54-year-old woman from Brampton was charged with one count of operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance in Orangeville to answer the charges. The woman’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days, the OPP said.
Police are reminding motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs and either use a designated driver, cab, rideshare, public transit or stay overnight.
The incident is at least the second time in recent weeks that restaurant patrons from Brampton have had run-ins with police.
Video of a patron losing his temper after walking out on a $350 bill at an Ontario resort led to charges for a man from Brampton after the footage went viral online.
A couple with a young child allegedly walked out on a $350 tab and the man became combative with staff when confronted, according to police and footage shared online.
While the bill was eventually paid in full, police say the incident has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect from Brampton who was charged with assault and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
