A global company founded in Korea and famous for its specialized hotdogs is coming to Milton.

Arirang Hotdog, which features corndogs on a stick and croquettes and come in several exotic dressings and flavours, is set for a downtown opening in the new year.

Founded in Korea in 2014, the company has spread quickly with 500 locations around the world including China, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The first Canadian locations opened last year in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary, and now Milton is set to join the list.

A spokesperson for the company said work on the 252 Main St. E. at Charles St. store is ongoing and while and opening date has not been set, early in the new year is a likely timeframe.

While the hotdog in most settings can be a routine affair — a little mustard, some ketchup and a dab of relish — what sets Arirang apart is how the eatery kicks it up a few notches.

While the basic coating is typically corndog, the dressings and fillings include various types of cheeses, poutine, beef, sausage, Oreo cookie, Cheetos and chicken nuggets. Plus, there is a variety of sauces to choose from.

“Crispy, yet chewy. Both sweet and salty. a very unique taste, nothing quite like it,” said one reviewer. “You can even mix them all together. It’s very customizable.”

As well, the croquettes can be customized and come with fillings such as chicken, curry and red bean.

Prices range from $4 to $7 for most items.
