Residents looking to buy fresh local produce and support area farmers can use an interactive online map designed to connect consumers with farms and markets across Peel Region.
The Grown in Peel program promotes local agriculture while helping residents discover where their food is grown. The initiative links consumers with farmers and farm families in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, making it easier to find locally produced food and agricultural products.
The online map highlights farms, farmers’ markets and other food producers throughout the region. Users can search locations and learn what products are available, from fresh fruits and vegetables to meats, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, wine and garden supplies.
Peel Region says the program also supports efforts to improve access to safe, healthy and affordable food for residents.
As part of the region’s TransHelp service, eligible passengers can even book trips to local farms and farmers’ markets, helping more residents access fresh, locally grown food.
Agriculture has deep roots in Peel, particularly in Caledon and northern Brampton, where farming has been a way of life for generations. The program encourages residents to learn more about local food production while supporting the businesses that help drive the region’s agricultural economy.
According to Peel Region, locally grown produce is harvested fresh and offers consumers an opportunity to enjoy seasonal foods while reducing the distance food travels from farm to table.
Beyond shopping for food, visitors can gain a firsthand look at how crops are grown and harvested. Many farms also offer seasonal activities and pick-your-own experiences that provide an educational outing for families.
The Grown in Peel map showcases a wide variety of agricultural businesses and food producers throughout the region, giving residents an easy way to explore local food options close to home.
More information, including the interactive map, is available through the Grown in Peel program on the Region of Peel website.
