Update: Instagram was down, but it’s working again in Canada

UPDATE: For a few hours on Sunday evening Instagram was down but now it’s back up. By 7:30 PM EST the kinks have been worked out so you can watch your Reels, Stories and Posts all night.
If you opened the Instagram app today (May. 21) and found it glitching with error messages or the same posts loading on your feed from a couple of hours ago— you are not alone as the popular social media platform is currently experiencing a major outage that’s being reported worldwide, with no real indication when it might come back online.
According to Downdetector — a webpage which tracks website outages, received thousands of reports from users who were having trouble with both the app and the website.
By 6:20 p.m., the complaints spiked to 166,268 users where nearly 86 percent of them were having difficulty with the app, while 10 percent expressed their frustration with the website and only 4 percent were having issues logging into their accounts.
When the outage first started, users may have tried to troubleshoot on their own end thinking it could be a WiFi connection issue or that in the worst case scenario their profiles got hacked.
But of course many figured that wasn’t the case.
Some users received failed error messages, when trying to upload grid posts or stories, while others were unable to refresh feed posts, as the message reads: “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”
At this time it is unknown the cause of the outage or when Instagram will switch from offline back to online.
If you are a frequent user of the social media platform, and are truly devoted to scrolling, commenting, liking or sharing—you may need to take up a temporary hobby while the team at Instagram work on bringing your favourite app up and working again.
