Incredible Photos of Shoppers World Through the Years in Brampton

Shopper’s World, Brampton’s somewhat “historical” mall, has been getting a lot of press lately.
Recently, the Toronto-based RioCan Real-Estate Investment Trust (or more simply, RioCan REIT) announced that it’s working with the city to develop a master plan for the relic of a shopping centre. The company’s plan for a newer, reinvigorated Shopper’s World will include 300,000 square feet of retail–less than half of what the mall boasts now. The development will also boast 1,500 residential rental units.
While most people know Shopper’s World as a useful but generally ho-hum establishment, it’s actually an impressive mall that’s more than stood the test of time. Opening in 1969, the mall has been home to long-defunct department stores and a waterslide.
Yes, that’s right–the mall was once home to a water slide operated by a tenant known as White Water. In fact, here’s a screengrab of a very old boasting “over 380 feet of twisting, turning excitement at Canada’s first year round water slide.” Here is an ad we found in a publication called the The Canadian Champion for the water slides from 1984.
Since Shopper’s World has been so top of mind, it’s probably a good time to take a little walk down memory lane.
