UPDATE: Both St. Catharines LCBO locations have run out of free antigen tests

When the province announced that LCBOs would now be carrying free rapid antigen screening kits for COVID-19, Niagara Region residents had to wait and see which stores would have them because there are clearly not enough available tests for all 690-plus liquor outlets in the province.

The answer was somewhat disappointing. Just two stores in St. Catharines were carrying the test – that’s it for the region. The St. Catharines LCBOs that had the rapid antigen screening kits are the city’s two largest – one at 311 Geneva Street, the other at 343 Glendale Avenue.

We say ‘had’ because at 12:30 this afternoon, St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens announced both locations had run out.

They join a Dundas store, an Oakville store and three stores in Mississauga, all of whom ran out of tests today.

To put it bluntly, these kits are being grabbed faster than a Cabbage Patch Doll and a Tickle Me Elmo combined.

As well, the province will be announcing pop-up locations but not until Monday (December 20).

LCBO said it will provide updates on its Twitter account: https://twitter.com/LCBO

“We appreciate your patience,” LCBO said. “Please continue to monitor this channel as we provide real-time updates for test kit inventory.”
