‘Imminent’ carjacking foiled in Mississauga leads to charges for 3 teens from Brampton: police

Police say they stopped an “imminent” carjacking and laid charges against three Brampton teens related to an earlier gunpoint robbery in Mississauga.

The first carjacking incident happened on Jan. 16 in the area of Dundas Street East and Cawthra Road in the City of Mississauga, Peel Regional Police say.

A male victim was walking towards his parked car when three suspects exited a vehicle that was parked directly next to the man’s ride, investigators say.

The three suspects confronted the victim at gunpoint and demanded his keys.

But the victim threw his keys away, and that’s when the suspects pushed the victim to the ground, stole his cell phone, and fled the area in the parked suspect vehicle.

Despite the altercation police said the victim’s vehicle wasn’t stolen.

Officers searched for the suspects and say the getaway vehicle was located parked beside another luxury vehicle.

Believing another carjacking was “imminent,” police say the three suspects were arrested.

A replica firearm was recovered during a search and police say the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen in Brampton earlier in the month.

Peel Regional Police say all three of the accused are 17-year-old youths from Brampton and have been charged with robbery with a firearm, wear disguise, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The identities of the accused cannot be released due to general provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
