What began as an April Fools joke is turning into reality.
Ikea announced on Wednesday that it’s bringing a meatball-tasting lollipop to Canadian stores for a limited time.
“After sparking global curiosity on April Fools Day with a playful announcement about a meatball-tasting lollipop, Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer operating in 32 countries, and Chupa Chups, one of the world’s most iconic lollipop brands, are turning the joke into a sweet reality,” Ikea said.
“The two companies have joined forces to serve a limited-edition, meatball-inspired lollipop this June in hundreds of IKEA stores around the world.”
Chupa Chups has been developing a lollipop that’s inspired by the iconic Swedish meatball and lingonberry.
Ikea said it “captures the spirit of Ikea food in a new and surprising way.”

One million lollipops will be produced and distributed to Ikea stores around the world.
They won’t be available for purchase, however. Customers will instead have the opportunity to try them for free this June.
“On April 1, we invited people to imagine a meatball lollipop. And we couldn’t help but take it one step further – especially after the enthusiastic response,” said Ingka Group commercial manager Javier Quiñones.
“Together with Chupa Chups, we are now bringing a playful take of that idea to life. It is a fun way to celebrate our love of food.”
Ikea said that exact dates and details for how people can try the lollipops will be announced soon.
