A classic Canadian television show is making a comeback.

A new version of The Littlest Hobo will return to screen as the first project in a partnership Bell Media and Lionsgate Canada and Point Grey Pictures, Crave announced today.

The series is produced by Lionsgate Canada in partnership with Point Grey Pictures, Rose Oushalkas and Christopher Dew of New Hobo Productions Inc., and Crave.

Canadians of a certain age will remember the ownerless German Shepherd, The Littlest Hobo, travelling across Canada, helping those in need. The Canadian television series was based upon a 1958 U.S. film of the same name.

The Littlest Hobo series first aired from 1963 to 1965, and was revived for a popular second run on CTV for six seasons, from 1979 to 1985.

This latest version is the first scripted project from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for the Canadian market under Lionsgate’s first-look television deal with Point Grey, Crave said.

Rogen and Goldberg said The Littlest Hobo was a foundational show of their childhood.

“We are thrilled to have the honour of bringing it back for a new generation alongside our partners at Crave,” they said in a statement. “And though the hobo may be little, we promise big things to come. That doesn’t mean the dog will be huge like Clifford. The hobo will still be little. But the adventures will be BIG.”

The show is one of the most legendary Canadian productions, said Justin Stockman, vice-president, global content, Bell Media.

“With bold, original storytelling rooted in Canada, this project sits at the heart of everything we set out to accomplish with this partnership. We couldn’t be more excited to bring Hobo home to Crave,” said Stockman.

Casting, production and premiere details are set to be announced at a later date.
