Human trafficking charge for Brampton woman accused of controlling two sex trade workers

Police have laid charges against a Brampton woman accused of procuring and benefiting off two female victims in the sex trade.

Peel Regional Police say a 43-year-old Brampton woman was arrested on Thursday (Sept. 14) following an investigation into alleged human trafficking.

Investigators say the woman was “controlling two female victims in the sex trade” in the Region of Peel, but police did not disclose whether the victims are from Mississauga or Brampton.

The 43-year-old has been charged with multiple offences.

Jagrutiben Bhatt, 43, of Brampton has been charged with human trafficking, receiving benefit resulting from trafficking in persons, and two counts each of exercise control, advertise sexual services, material benefit from sexual services and procuring.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
