The fire department crew were called to an active multiple-alarm blaze located at a building in Hamilton which produced excessive smoke and reduced the air quality for residents in the area.

On Sunday (Jun. 18) shortly before 9 a.m., members of the Hamilton Fire Department responded to a call for a building fire in the area of Gage Ave North / Gertrude St.

According to the fire department crew, residents in the area may not only observe but experience smoke conditions that cause poor air quality. It is advised that individuals keep their property windows closed.

As of 9:30 a.m. —approximately 40 minutes after attending the blaze, the fire department reported that they had put out a bulk of the blaze and the smoke conditions had considerably cleared up.

Residents were urged to avoid the area of Gage Ave N between Burlington St E and Barton St E as the Hamilton Fire Department members said the road would remain closed for some time.
