House fire in Mississauga sends one person to hospital as nearby homes evacuated

A house fire in Mississauga prompted road closures and the evacuation of nearby homes on Saturday.

Peel Regional Police and emergency crews responded to the fire near Ruperts Gate Drive and Russell View Road.

When crews first arrived, the fire was active and surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. At that time, no injuries had been reported.

Peel Regional Police also closed several roads in the area while firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The affected road closures include:

  • Glen Erin Drive at Middlebury Drive
  • Ruperts Gate Drive at Russell View Road

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area while emergency crews remain on scene.

In an update, Peel Police confirmed the fire has now been extinguished.

One person was transported to hospital with minor injuries. No additional injuries have been reported.

Road closures remain in place as crews continue their work at the scene and investigate the cause of the fire.

Residents are advised to avoid the area until the closures are lifted.
