House fire in Mississauga forces students at three schools to stay inside

Update: Peel Regional Police said as of about 2:30 p.m. that the “shelter in place” has been lifted for the three schools and that the cause of the house fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

Students at three elementary schools near the QEW in Mississauga have been forced to stay inside their schools until the smoke clears from a nearby house fire early this afternoon.

Peel Regional Police say students at Corsair Public School, Camilla Road Senior Public School and St. Timothy Elementary School are being told to “shelter in place” until the smoke from the house fire clears away.

The house fire, which broke out just after 1 p.m. in the area of The Queensway and Cliff Road, has been extinguished, according to police.

However, heavy smoke remains inside the home and in the several blocks nearby, police add.

There were no injuries in the blaze.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area while police and firefighters remain on the scene.
