Hot coffee thrown at Brampton bylaw officer trying to enforce COVID rules

A Brampton bylaw officer had hot coffee thrown at him while trying to enforce COVID social distancing rules.
The City of Brampton reports the incident occurred during the past week when a gathering of people were confronted by the officer who was responding to a complaint.
“It’s important to respect our bylaw officers doing their job,” said Brampton councillor Paul Vicente. “This week we learned of the egregious behaviour of residents who threw hot coffee on a bylaw officer simply for doing their job to keep our community safe. City staff are working hard to keep our city safe. They never deserve to be assaulted or attacked in the course of doing their duties.”
Brampton bylaw enforcement director Paul Morrison went on to explain the officer was handing out a citation to person who was committing the infraction.
“The person took offence and threw a hot cup of coffee at him,” said Morrison. “Luckily he wasn’t hurt. We contacted Peel Police right away and they investigated and laid a charge.”
From April 19 to 25, Brampton bylaw officers laid 50 charges concerning violations of rules meant to curb the spread of the virus. Fourteen charges related to a house party and six others were handed out to those in a group who gathered in a parking lot.
