Better late than never when it comes to donating money for a worthy cause.

Clarington Mayor presented (virtually, of course) Melodie Zarzeczny and Jill Richardson of Hospice Clarington with a cheque for $25,240.80 during Monday’s Council meeting, the proceeds from the 2021 Mayors’ Golf Classic, held September 9 at the Newcastle Golf and Country Club.

The money will go towards a $15 million capital project that will see two new hospices built in Durham – a nine-bed hospice in Clarington and a 10-bed facility in Whitby. The new hospices are expected to serve 200 to 300 residents and their families a year.

To donate, visit www.durhamregionhospice.com and select either Clarington or Whitby.
