Brampton’s very own chart topping pop star Alessia Cara will ring in the new year with a free performance that will see her inducted into the city’s walk of fame.

Cara, whose debut studio album Know-It-All peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, will entertain the crowd on New Year’s Eve in Garden Square, followed by the annual city-run fireworks show.

Raised in Brampton, Cara has won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2018 and the Juno for Album of the Year in 2020.

“Her music blends pop, soul and singer-songwriter influences, creating songs that feel intimate, uplifting and instantly relatable,” the city says.

Cara, who was born in Mississauga but grew up in Brampton, sang the Canadian anthem for Game 2 of the Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series run.

She will be the 26th inductee to the Art’s Walk of Fame.

After the show, guests are encouraged to stay for the fireworks display,

Brampton Transit will be free for all riders after 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, with extended service throughout the night to help residents and visitors travel safely.
