Shoppers in an Ontario community will soon have a new place to hunt for home décor bargains without leaving town.

The community’s first-ever HomeSense is scheduled to open in Milton on Aug. 17, bringing the popular home furnishings retailer to the fast-growing town for the first time.

The new store will occupy a sprawling 25,826-sq-ft space in the north wing of Milton Mall at 55 Ontario St. S., next to RONA+, making it one of the largest additions to the shopping centre in years. The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature both a dedicated exterior entrance facing Ontario Street and an interior entrance from inside the mall.

HomeSense specializes in brand-name and designer home décor, furniture, kitchenware, rugs, lighting, bedding, seasonal merchandise and other household accessories, offering products at discounted prices through its ever-changing inventory. The company encourages shoppers to visit frequently as merchandise is replenished regularly.

For Milton residents, the opening fills a noticeable gap in the town’s retail landscape.

Until now, shoppers looking for a HomeSense have typically travelled to neighbouring Mississauga, Oakville or Burlington. The arrival of the retailer means Milton residents will have access to the chain’s selection of home furnishings and décor without leaving town.

The store is also expected to boost traffic at Milton Mall, which has undergone significant changes over the past several months to accommodate the new tenant.

To make room for HomeSense, the mall cleared and reconfigured much of its north wing, with several existing businesses relocating elsewhere within the shopping centre. The addition gives the approximately 300,000-sq-ft mall another major anchor alongside retailers including Winners, Dollarama, Shoppers Drug Mart and RONA+.

The announcement has generated plenty of excitement online.

In a recent discussion on Reddit, one resident wrote, “Finally!” while another commented that after hearing Milton was getting a Costco, Fortinos and now HomeSense, “We are moving up in the world!”

One homeowner said their spouse had been disappointed that Milton didn’t have a HomeSense when they moved to town, adding that the new store’s arrival was “her dream come true.”

Other shoppers welcomed the decision to include an exterior entrance, noting it will make it much easier to load larger purchases directly into their vehicles. Some residents also expressed curiosity about how busy the new store will be when it opens, with one predicting it will quickly become a popular shopping destination.

The opening comes as Milton continues to attract new retailers to serve its rapidly growing population.
