Home Sweet Home festival shuts down Ontario town’s inner core for summer fun

Whitby’s annual Home Sweet Home Festival returns Saturday, transforming the downtown core into a vibrant, pedestrian-only celebration of local culture, family fun and community.

The festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is a day of summer fun, community and memories for the whole family in a downtown free of vehicle traffic and full of new experiences.

The festival will include the Family Adventure Zone, which will feature a thrilling 300-foot zipline, a trackless train and a dedicated kids’ entertainment area; an Artisan & Market Alley to shop for unique crafts at the Station Gallery’s Artisan Marketplace and browse fresh produce at the Whitby Farmers’ Market; as well as live cultural dances and music on the main stage and expanded outdoor patios for local merchants to enjoy food and drinks.

There will also be a youth entrepreneurial alley, opportunities to meet Bluey and Bingo and dance with Spider-Man, town trolley rides, museum activities and even a chance to dunk the mayor.

“The whole downtown will be pedestrian-friendly and walkable,” Roy said. “Come on down – we’re shutting the streets!”

With no on-street parking, organizers are encouraging festival goers to park at the Henry Street Parking Lot and take the free shuttle service, which runs every 10 minutes from 9:50 a.m. to 4:20 p.m., dropping off at the Whitby Public Library.

Tens of thousands filled the streets last year at the hugely successful inaugural event and Home Sweet Home Festival 2026 promises new experiences around every corner as the town celebrates summer in downtown Whitby.
