A building now for sale in Mississauga is a chance to own a piece of history.

The property at 317 Queen St. S., at Church Street, in Streetsville is listed for sale for $1,388,888.

Known as the McKeith Home, the classic Georgian centre hall style building is often featured on heritage walks in Streetsville. 

John Davidson built this home in 1852 for William McKeith, a hand-weaver at Toronto Woollen Mills in Streetsville, according to Heritage Mississauga.

The home features a simple, symmetrical plan built from common-bond brick, and was typical of early residential housing.

William Tolton, Streetsville mayor from 1966 to 67, later owned the home. Tolton owned a publishing business and was the first president of the Streetsville Historical Society, according to Heritage Mississauga.

The home is designated under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act as part of the Streetsville Heritage Conservation District.

In 2002, a permit was issued for an office use within a single-family house and there was a chiropractic office in the home until around 2018.

There is the potential to convert the entire home to commercial office space, according to the listing from Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd.

The interior has been recently renovated and boasts 2,238 square feet of living space.

It backs onto green space and the Credit River ravine.
