One man is in custody after a hit-and-run collision where a driver crashed into a park, injuring two women in Brampton.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 1:15 p.m. near Elgin Drive and Torrance Woods Drive in Brampton when Peel Regional Police say the driver of a white car crashed into a tree at Vanier Park.

Pictures from the scene obtained by Insauga.com show a white Ford sedan with its driver’s side doors open and front-end damage, which had crashed into a tree and a bench in the park.

Police said the driver took off on foot following the crash.

A police spokesperson said the women were sitting on a park bench at the time of the crash and suffered non-life threatening injuries from debris in the collision.

Peel paramedics confirmed two patients were treated at the scene and two ambulances and a rapid response team responded to the crash. A spokesperson was unable to comment on the extent of the injuries and whether any of the victims were transported to hospital.

An adult male suspect was located by police shortly after the crash and a spokesperson says the man has been taken into custody.

Investigators have not released any additional details about the crash or the suspect.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.
