Westbound drivers heading through Whitby on Highway 407 — the toll highway — are being rerouted after a serious collision involving a motorcyclist.

The Ontario Provincial Police says the motorcyclist and driver collided around 4:30 p.m. on Monday (June 20). westbound traffic is being forced off at Lakeridge Road. All lanes are blocked and “extensive delays” are expected.

The motorcycle rider who was in the crash was taken to a trauma centre, which is often an indication that a person’s injuries are life-altering or -threatening.

“We have our collision reconstruction on their way to do their investigation,” OPP Staff Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video. “If you happen to be a witness to either the (involved) motorcycle, or the car, or their collision, please call the Whitby OPP. I do not have a timeline on when this will reopen. The crash happened around 4:30 and I expect there will be extensive delays.”

Any witnesses should contact the Whitby detachement of the Ontario Provincial Police at 905-668-3388.
