The sacrifices of our veterans will be honoured this November with the planting of several hundred trees at the Oshawa Executive Airport’s South Field.

The tree-planting program is a collaborative effort of Trees for Life, the Ontario Regiment Museum and the City and is part of the Highway of Heroes Tree Tribute, which honours fallen members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The tree planting will happen in two phases beginning this month on a City-owned buffer adjacent to the Ontario Regiment Museum.

The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign – two million trees, two million heroes, a tree for every hero is their slogan – plants native trees and shrubs that support local biodiversity and ecosystems while also increasing the urban canopy across Canada.

The campaign has already exceeded its initial goal to raise $10 million to pay for the planting and expected to have all two million trees in the ground by Remembrance Day, 2022.
