The long wait is over for those foodies wanting a new blend of Japanese and South Asian cuisine in Mississauga.

Bonsai Asian Bistro & Bar recently opened its doors at 60 Lakeshore Rd E near Stavebank Rd in Port Credit.

The new restaurant aims to “combine the western dining experience with the incredible food from East and South East Asia” with a menu that features a variety of sushi, maki, tapas, hand rolls, sake, and more.

Unique entrees include Wagyu Shabu Shabu, a traditional Japanese hotpot dish that cooks right at your table, and Udon Carbonera, a dish of Udon noodles with creamy egg and layers of Parmesan cheese, edamame, and pancetta.

For dessert, the restaurant serves Japanese cheesecake, jasmine tea & coco mousse, and black sesame crème brûlée.

Bonsai has been in the works for several years — Jonathan Harvey, co-owner of Nomads Restobar in Port Credit, told insauga.com about the restaurant concept back in 2018.

“Bonsai is an upscale-casual dining experience featuring food and beverages inspired by Japan and Southeast Asia,” Harvey said. “With a focus on high-touch customer service and a stylish-contemporary atmosphere, Bonsai is the perfect balance of elegant dining, and Toronto cultural relevance in heart of Port Credit.”

The restaurant is open now and reservations can be made via Bonsai’s website.
