Some 7,000 homes and businesses in Lincoln will get high-speed pure fibre Internet, thanks to a deal struck between the town and service provider Bell.

Announced on March 28, the broadband expansion program will provide fast and high-capacity 100 per cent fibre connections with Internet download and superior upload speeds.

The $17 million investment, fully funded by Bell, will bring direct fibre network connections to locations throughout the Town of Lincoln over the next two years.

“Providing greater and improved broadband access to residents and businesses in Lincoln has been a top priority for Council and Staff over the past several years,” said Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton.

“Bell’s investment is most welcome and much needed for our community, and through our partnership with Bell, thousands in Lincoln are expected to benefit from improved internet access, a necessity for residents and businesses alike.”

Lincoln CAO Michael Kirkopoulos said that town staff played a key role in the broadband expansions “by working closely with Bell to identify the need and work on an expedited permitting process in order for Bell to install the new infrastructure. This investment to bring broadband internet to Lincoln has been an important element of our workplan.”
