A disturbing investigation into hidden cameras placed inside a women’s washroom has led to 85 voyeurism charges against a factory custodian, with police warning there may be more victims.
Toronto police launched an investigation January 9, with the janitor at a manufacturing facility near Thickson Road and Tricont Avenue alleged to have placed a hidden camera in the women’s washroom.
On Jan. 29 investigators executed a search warrant at a residence at McCowan Road and Finch Avenue in Scarborough and arrested Francis Ambas, 45, who police say was found in possession of a media card containing hidden video and audio recordings taken inside the washroom.
Investigators also discovered numerous additional videos from the hidden camera(s) and believe there may be more victims who used the washroom between April 4, 2022, and January 29, 2026 and may have been recorded without their knowledge or consent.
Ambas was charged with 85 counts of voyeurism and possession of a schedule one substance.
He made his first court appearance Jan. 30.
