Mississauga masks end

Effective Monday, March 21, the provincial government will remove mandatory masking requirements for most spaces throughout Ontario.

There are a few exceptions, however. Here’s where residents will still be expected to wear masks until further notice:

  • public transit
  • Uber vehicles
  • health care settings
  • long-term care homes
  • congregate care settings
  • most schools in Hamilton (the Hamilton-Wentworth school board has extended the mask requirement until April 1)
  • shelters
  • jails
  • any private schools, post-secondary institutions, businesses, or private spaces that may choose to enforce mask wearing even after the mandate is lifted

The province announced earlier this month that it has chosen to lift the mask mandate following a “continued improvement in trends.”

Confused? Should people follow Mississauga or Ontario mask rules?

“With the peak of Omicron behind us, Ontario has been able to cautiously and gradually move through its reopening milestones,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health.

“While this does not signal that COVID-19 has disappeared or that the pandemic is over, it does mean that we have come to a place where we know what we need to do to manage this virus and to keep each other safe.”

The province has asked residents to remain considerate and respectful toward those who choose to continue wearing a mask after the mandate has been lifted.
