Two separate programs will bring free movies to Burlington parks this week.

Tonight (July 9) is the debut of Movies by the Lake presented by Burlington Downtown Business Association (BDBA).

Showing begins at 8:30 p.m. for the 1985 film Back to the Future at Spencer Smith Park.

Watch as Marty McFly gets accidentally transported back in time and tries to find his way back to the future with the help of his scientist friend Doc Brown. The film stars Michael J. Fox.

“Make it a night (or several!) to remember as an amazing ensemble awaits you at this free event series,” writes the BDBA on its website. “With a supporting cast of dinner and drinks, shopping and exploring before the show, package your own cinematic evening alongside our over 400 businesses. With several of our small businesses making cameos in the park each week, supporting local has never been so easy.”

Along with the movies, there will be trivia and other surprises.

Next up on Thursday (July 11), it is the School of Rock at Ireland Park at 2315 Headon Forest Drive.

Starring Jack Black, School of Rock is about how an unqualified but well-meaning teacher brings together classroom harmony by introducing the rules of rock and roll to his students.

School of Rock will begin at dusk and is presented by the City of Burlington as part of its Movies Under the Stars series.

Films will continue through July and August.
