With warmer weather just around the corner–temperatures are expected to hit 20 degrees over the Victoria Day long weekend–you might be looking for a fun (but relatively solitary) outdoor activity.

While you can’t fish in rivers and streams in Credit Valley Conservation-run parks and trails just yet, there are places in Mississauga where you can catch some fish while practising physical distancing.

Recently, the City of Mississauga took to social media to say that fishing is permitted in parts of the city, including the Lake Aquitaine dock. Residents can also fish along the Credit River and in Lake Ontario.

In fact, fishing enthusiasts interested in reeling in some Lake Ontario wildlife can head to the pier at JJ Plaus Park to do so.

While parks are open, residents should note that park parking lots are closed to prevent overcrowding.

Residents should also remember that while fishing is permitted in some areas, physical distancing orders are in place and gatherings of more than five people who do not live together are still prohibited by the province.

People who violate physical distancing orders could face fines of up to $750.

Those interested in boating should also note that marinas and boat launches are closed in Mississauga. That said, boaters can launch a personal watercraft–such as a kayak or canoe–at city beaches.

Are you planning on going fishing or kayaking this weekend?
