Residents who have a lot of garbage to toss will soon have the opportunity to get rid of it.

Peel’s Region’s fall garbage exemption period will happen from September 12 to September 22, 2022.

During your garbage exemption day, you can put out an unlimited amount of (acceptable) garbage on the curb to be picked up.

No garbage bag tags are required and extra garbage is collected on your garbage collection day, not on your recycling collection day.

Residents can check when their garbage exemption day is by using the Region’s collection calendar. The pink dot indicates your garbage exemption day.

In order to be picked up, an extra garbage bag cannot:

  • Weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Be larger than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high.
  • Be smaller than 30 cm (12 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in) high.
