If you’ve been fortunate enough to stay home today, you’ve probably looked out your window and noticed that Old Man Winter is going to town on us today.

If you’re at work, well, you know it’s bad out there.

Environment Canada has warned us that we’re in the midst of a winter storm that will blast us with 15 to 25 cm snow, ice pellets, possible freezing rain, and strong winds.

Because of that, a number of city-run facilities are closed or closing early.

Here’s the latest news, according to the City of Mississauga:

City of Mississauga Culture and Library programs are cancelled for the rest of the day and evening.

City of Mississauga Recreation programs are cancelled as of 3 p.m. today.

Community Centres (including fitness centres), arenas and the Paramount Fine Foods Centre and Libraries will remain open to the public. Facility and room rentals will proceed as scheduled at this time. Contact your group, league or club directly for details as this status may change throughout the day.

Please contact facilities directly for details in case closures are required due to extreme weather conditions.

Please note Malton Library has closed for the day.

Meadowvale Theatre, the Small Arms Inspection Building and the City’s museums will close at noon today.

The Celebration Square skating rink will close at noon. No skate rentals will be available today.

The city’s Animal Services shelter will remain open at this time. Please contact the facility directly for details.

With the inclement weather expected to continue throughout the day, MiWay may experience delays.

Winter maintenance crews have been deployed to maintain road safety. Residents should exercise caution when travelling on roads and sidewalks as snow clearing may take longer to complete.

Service levels will take effect once the significant weather event declaration has been lifted.

Crews will focus on keeping major roads clear for the duration of the storm so that emergency vehicles and transit can operate safely. Once completed, crews will move on to clearing residential roads, priority sidewalks and bus stops.

Residents are asked to remove parked vehicles from streets for equipment to safely and efficiently clear roads.

As for what’s open, Square One, Erin Mills Town Centre and Dixie Outlet Mall all remain open at this time.
