Here’s What’s Happening with Parking in Bronte Village

It’s no secret that parking in Bronte Village in Oakville has been an issue for quite some time.
It’s no secret that parking in Bronte Village in Oakville has been an issue for quite some time. However, residents, and those who frequent the area, may be happy to hear that the town is working to resolve this issue.
In June the town will be launching a two-year pilot commercial parking program in the area. The goal of this pilot is to address business and community concerns regarding parking availability.
“The Bronte pilot parking program will support a dynamic and thriving Bronte Village,” Mayor Rob Burton said in a statement. “Offering and enforcing paid parking options will help ensure spaces are available for customers, visitors and residents of Bronte to enjoy the many shops, restaurants and activities in the area.”
As noted on the town’s website, paid parking will be available alongside storefronts on main and secondary streets, and at town-owned spaces at the Bronte Village Mall.
Parking will be controlled in the area with meters, monthly permits, and the Honk mobile payment app.
“The town already manages commercial parking operations in Downtown Oakville and Kerr Village,” reads a recent press release. “Charging for parking in commercial areas is a common way to promote turnover and manage demand. Rates, fees, durations and hours of operation in Bronte Village will be consistent with those in other commercial districts within Oakville.”
In addition, two-hour parking limits will be in effect on residential streets adjacent to the Bronte Village commercial shopping area.
This pilot program is a result of residents, business owners, and commercial property owners raising concerns about visitors parking for extended periods of time in the commercial district.
An open house regarding this pilot program will be taking place on Wednesday, May 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walton Memorial Church.
