While not everyone was crazy about the idea of a long weekend in February, most have come to take advantage of the bonus time off.

And the fact that it falls just a few days after Valentine’s Day makes it all the more festive.

If you’re not quite sure what to do on Family Day (Monday, Feb. 18), you might be happy to know that you can enjoy a range of complimentary (or very low-cost) activities in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga says that residents can enjoy a wide array of outdoor activities, including cross country skiing, snowshoeing, indoor and outdoor skating, tobogganing, fishing and indoor swimming.

There will also be a Family Day PJ skate at Celebration Square. If you don’t want to spend too long skating in your pyjamas (which is crazy, as any activity is better in PJs), you can head inside to enjoy some crafts and refreshments.

Attendees can also check out the Royal Ontario Museum’s Travelling Planetarium for a unique look at the universe.

This free event will kick off at noon and run until 4:00 p.m.

If you enjoy swimming and indoor skating, you can enjoy both activities at Mississauga community centres, pools and arenas.

For a complete schedule of events, visit this online schedule.

Since Family Day is a holiday, residents should note that city offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18.

Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

MiWay will operate on a holiday service schedule and libraries will be closed on Sunday, Feb. 17 and Monday, Feb. 18.
