Here’s how the new Walmart membership program works in Canada

Walmart on Thursday announced that a new membership program has arrived in Canada.

Walmart+ has launched, marking the first time it’s available outside of the United States.

“Walmart+ is a game-changer for Canadians, especially the busy families who rely on our everyday low prices,” Walmart Canada’s head of membership Catherine Theberge-Conner said.

“With Walmart+, Canadians can access a unique membership offering that combines unlimited grocery and general merchandise delivery with benefits beyond retail.”

Here’s a look at what Walmart+ members get:

• Unlimited free same-day delivery for in-store items. The order minimum is $35. Items are priced the same as in-store. The order must be placed by 4 p.m.
• Savings on express delivery, which arrives in two hours or less. Walmart said the savings are estimated based on $4-6 express fees compared to $12.97 – $14.97 non-member fees, though that may vary by location.
• Free shipping with no order minimum on thousands of items on Walmart.ca and Walmart’s app. That applies to items that are sold and shipped by Walmart, or sold by participating marketplace sellers, fulfilled and shipped by Walmart. Eligible items have a unique badge. “Some exclusions apply, including remote areas in Canada, items over 150lbs, and scheduled delivery orders from stores. Handling fees may apply,” Walmart says.
• A subscription to Crave Standard with ads.

“For the first time, we’ve unlocked free shipping with no order minimum, arriving as soon as the next day, for thousands of items on Walmart.ca,” said Andrew Go, the vice president of ecommerce and marketing at Walmart Canada.

“This benefit is only available through Walmart+ and is going to transform how Canadians shop with Walmart.”

Walmart+ costs $8.97 per month, or $89 per year, plus tax. New customers can get a 30-day trial.

The company said Walmart+ offers more than its Delivery Pass program, which launched for $89 in 2023. Those with a Delivery Pass membership will automatically become Walmart+ members.
