counterfeit cash case in Pickering, Ajax

A Help Solve a Crime plea to the public has led to the identification and arrest of a woman wanted in a phony money incident in late April at Home Sense stores in Pickering and Ajax.

Durham Police say the woman entered a Home Sense store in Ajax on April 28 and bought some items using fraudulent currency. A short time later, police allege, she visited another Home Sense location in Pickering and returned the items for legitimate currency.

Tanase Stela Haret, 50, of Pickering, was identified with assistance from a Help Solve a Crime post and taken into custody in Oshawa on July 3.

Haret has been charged with fraud under $5,000 and utter counterfeit currency.

She was released on an Undertaking.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371.
