A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a crash in Mississauga on Wednesday afternoon that prompted a road closure and the landing of an air ambulance helicopter in a residential area.

Peel Regional Police said officers responded shortly before 3 p.m. to reports of a single-vehicle motorcycle collision near Ridgeway Drive and McMaster Road in the Erin Mills neighbourhood, east of Highway 403 and north of Dundas Street West.

Peel Regional Paramedic Services said an adult man was thrown from the motorcycle in the crash. After being assessed at the scene, he was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The helicopter landed on a nearby street to transport the injured rider before taking off for the trauma centre, drawing attention from residents in the area.

Police closed Ridgeway Drive in both directions between McMaster Road and Dovetail Mews while investigators examined the scene.

The cause of the collision has not been released and the investigation remains ongoing.
