Some turbulent weather is coming to Hamilton and parts of Niagara region.

The forecast is calling for strong winds on Sunday night (Dec. 5) through to the following evening.

The cause is a low pressure system that will track east across the Great Lakes Sunday through Monday. Heavy rain and strong southerly winds are expected to develop Sunday night, with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h possible.

The rain will end and the wind will ease briefly on Monday morning, but the wind is expected to pick up again Monday afternoon. Wind gusts could reach near 100 km/h at times mainly along the Lake Erie shores.

Local rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected.

Residents should take caution, as strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Power outages are also possible.
