Second Hamilton high school targeted with bomb threat Tuesday

Students and staff at Hamilton high schools were evacuated Tuesday morning after separate bomb threats on opposite ends of the city.

Hamilton police are responding to a second bomb threat at a local high school Tuesday morning.

The first threat was made toward Glendale high school in the city’s east end at King St. East and Nash Rd. Police notified the public via Twitter at 8:16 a.m. Approximately 90 minutes later, police reported that the school had been cleared, and staff and students returned safely.

According to reports from parents, students from Glendale were being held at Viola Desmond elementary school, located directly behind Glendale.

At 9:44 a.m., the public was notified of a second bomb threat; this time directed at Westmount secondary off Garth St. near Mohawk Rd.

A heavy police presence is expected in the neighbourhood during the investigation.

Update: Police have cleared Westmount high school. Students and staff have returned to their classrooms.
