Health risks: Chocolate, burritos, soda, salami and more products recalled in Mississauga and Brampton

Multiple food items and other products have been recalled from retailers in Ontario this past week (Dec. 19 to 25), including stores in Mississauga and Brampton and online marketplaces, due to potential health and safety risks.

See below for more information on each recall:


Venetian Meats brand Finocchiona Salami Sweet Fennel

Venetian Meats – Finocchiona Salami Sweet Fennel – 2 kg

Risk: Possible Salmonella contamination. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick with symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.

What you should do: Recalled food products should be thrown out or returned to the store they were purchased from. If you think you became sick from eating a recalled product, contact your doctor or healthcare provider.


Loop Mission brand Probiotic Soda

Risk: Possible spoilage.

Feast by Circles & Squares brand sandwiches

Risk: The star-shaped support base of the chair may unexpectedly detach, posing a fall and injury hazard.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chair and return the product to an IKEA Canada store for a refund.

Risk: The product contains a metal bell held on by a cord. This bell can detach from the cord if it is turned on itself several times, causing a choking hazard.

What you should do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact the retailer where the product was purchased for more instructions.


Various Bassinets and Change Tables for Harmony Play & Go Playards

Risk: If the bassinet structural support bars are not in place and fully assembled in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, and if an unattended infant is placed cross-wise on the bassinet without the bassinet structural support bars in place, an uneven sleeping surface may be created posing a potential risk of injury or death due to suffocation. Additionally, if a child is left unattended in the bassinet or playard portion of the playard while the change table accessory is installed, contrary to the manufacturer instructions, a child could attempt to lift the change table accessory posing a potential risk of injury or death due to entrapment.

What you should do:

  • Bassinet: Consumers should not use the bassinet of the Harmony Play & Go Playard without the accompanying bassinet structural support bars in place. Consumers should contact Harmony to receive a free kit to eliminate the possibility of removing the bassinet structural support bars.
  • Change Table: Consumers should immediately detach and discard the change table straps and stop using the instructions for the change table. Consumers should contact Harmony to obtain updated change table instructions. Once the updated change table instructions have been reviewed, consumers may continue to use Harmony Play & Go Playard change table in accordance with the updated instructions.
