Developers want to build a multi-use cricket facility like the one pictured here in Brampton.

Brampton residents can have their say on the future of the City’s CAA Lands and a proposed multi-purpose cricket stadium development project.

The City of Brampton is connecting with residents, businesses, and local stakeholders to gather feedback on the future of the CAA Lands – a 45-hectare site at Kennedy Rd. South and Highways 410 and 407 earmarked for redevelopment under the City’s 2040 Vision plan.

The site is currently the location of the CAA sports and entertainment facility, but the City has plans to transform the area from a sports complex “into a new urban core with major transit-oriented opportunities for high-density residential, business, leisure, and tourism.”

The City has also heard proposals from Cosmos Sports & Entertainment to build a 20,000-seat, $100 million multi-use cricket stadium as the centrepiece of the CAA lands. The group’s proposal includes a public-private partnership for the facility, and Cosmos said the deal would be a “net positive for the taxpayers,” with the developers covering the bill.

Residents can let the City know what new developments they would like to see at the CAA Lands through an online survey open until Feb. 28. Questions range from what theme the facility should have, who should fund the stadium development, and what amenities should be a priority for the City.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is encouraging Brampton residents to take the survey to learn more about the project and says “the possibilities are endless.”

“We have the chance to do something very special, and creating a legacy project with a world-class multipurpose cricket facility as the centerpiece is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the spirit of Brampton to shine brightly for decades to come,” Brown said in a statement.

The City has also launched an Expression of Interest for parties to submit plans to develop the lands “into a vibrant urban realm and walkable neighbourhood that includes a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose cricket facility.”
