A public meeting regarding a proposed four-storey long-term care facility in north Burlington is being held next week.

Rykka Care Centres wants to amend the City’s official plan to allow the development of a 224-bed long-term care facility on Palladium Way.

In addition to the 224 long-term care residents, this facility will also employ more than 250 full-time, part-time and casual employees.

The new care home is to replace the New Wellington Long Term Care located in downtown Burlington, which has been providing nursing services to seniors since 1959.

The new home will provide accommodation for an additional 92 residentsfrom the current home.

The purpose of the Public Information Centre session is to provide an informal opportunity for local residents to learn more about the planning application and the review process, ask questions and share your comments with the owner in advance of the Official Plan and Zoning By-Law Amendment applications being filed with the City.

City staff will be in attendance but no formal presentation will take place. City staff will hold the required Statutory Public Meeting with City Council at a later date and separate notices of this meeting will be provided.

The meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. at New Apostolic Church, 4209 Palladium Way.

A formal presentation will be followed by questions and open forum.
