Though you might not expect your mailbox to be broken into, it’s something very concerning that can happen right here in Brampton. And after a large Canada Post mailbox kiosk was broken into in a plaza in Brampton last week, some residents are concerned.
According to Canada Post, a mailbox was broken into in the area of McLaughlin Road South and Ray Lawson Boulevard during the weekend of March 2-4, 2018.
“Arrangements have already been made to resume normal delivery for the two dozen affected customers – mailbox locks were replaced and new keys were delivered,” a Canada Post representative recently told inbrampton.com.
It’s true that e-mail is more common and popular than snail mail, but residents do still check their Canada Post mailboxes in Brampton. Bills, coupons, and important hard-copy documents are often delivered through the mail.
“We take these matters and the security of the mail very seriously,” said Canada Post.
The incident is currently under police investigation, according to Canada Post.
“While we will not provide specifics, our efforts involve everything from equipment, to monitoring, to working closely with police.”
Residents are shaken by the event.
One reader who was affected by the incident told inbrampton.com they “just want people to be on alert and maybe check their mail as soon as its delivered.”
“Our boxes are in a plaza unfortunately, hundreds of boxes there,” said the reader.
