Handguns found during stolen vehicle arrest lead to charges for Brampton man

What started as an investigation into a stolen vehicle ended with two handguns seized and charges for a man from Brampton, police say.

The arrest happened on May 5 after officers spotted a vehicle in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Airport Road in Brampton that had been previously reported stolen, Peel Regional Police say.

Officers saw a male suspect exit the vehicle and placed the man under arrest, police say.

But a search revealed the man had a .40 calibre handgun and a 9mm handgun in his possession, along with ammunition and extended magazines.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man from Brampton who was charged with multiple offences.

Peel Regional Police say Charandeep Singh, 25, of Brampton, has been charged with two counts each of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm, and careless storage of firearm, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime, tampering with serial number of firearm, and other offences.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, police say.
