Charges are pending against a Brampton driver after police say they found a handgun with ammunition, cannabis and open liquor during a traffic stop.

The Mississauga OPP said on Saturday that officers were in the area of Highway 410 and Clark Boulevard in Brampton when they pulled over a 26-year-old driver from Brampton.

Officers say the driver was stopped after speeding past a police cruiser.

But while searching the vehicle, police say officers found an undisclosed amount of cannabis and open liquor inside the vehicle along with a loaded handgun.

Investigators say the firearm was stashed underneath the vehicle’s passenger seat.

Police say a 26-year-old driver from Brampton was arrested and faces multiple firearms charges and offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was held for bail, and police have not released any additional details including the identity of the accused.
