A Filipino/Asian-inspired handcrafted bao pop-up spot is set to return to Square One in Mississauga.

Bao Mama is a Filipino restaurant that is known for its well…baos (which are fluffy steamed buns stuffed with meat or veggies) and is returning to the Food District on Apr. 1, 2023.

The Filipino restaurant, which started in 2021 as a home catering business in Oshawa, eventually opened a location in Scarborough. It is known for incorporating Filipino/Asian-inspired textures and flavours into its buns which they make from scratch that are topped with Asian house slaw, green onions and specialty sauces.

Other popular menu items include buns stuffed with braised beef brisket, deep-fried chopped pork hock and crispy chicken.

It also features several vegetarian options including the tofu and mushroom bun with a miso glaze, salads, spring rolls and fries.

Bao Mama has had a pop-up at the Food District in the past, which was chosen as a strategic location since they have various customers who travel to Scarborough from Mississauga.

“We loved you so much, we decided to come back and do it all over again y’all,” wrote Bao Mama in an Instagram post. “We can’t wait to see and serve you all again!”
